A few years ago our area was struck by Hurricane Ida. Much of the area was devastated and it was difficult to get and send packages. I started an afghan for a friend back in November 2021. I started it with yarn I had on hand. Unfortunately, I ran out of that yarn and was unable to get more quickly so I went on to other projects using my considerable stash.

Fast forward to 2024. I have once again been working through my stash and ran into this project. At some point, I actually bought more of the Paintbox Simply Aran yarn. Again unfortunately, it wasn’t the color I meant to get as I noted the wrong number in my blog post. However, I made do with it and was able to finish a couple more strips. However, I used every bit of the yarn and had none left for a border. Also, I would like to add a couple more strips to finish the verse.

I tried to order more yarn but the Champagne white is out of stock. I also need the lighter tan which I think is 207, which is also out of stock. I tried Etsy and Ebay and even Ravelry but no luck.

I tried to upload a picture of what it looks like today, but WordPress wouldn’t let me. Suddenly, it’s being persnickety about it. Apparently, the rules have changed. I had to severely reduce the picture but it’s showing up now. Not that it’s a great picture but it was a quick take.

I was able to find one skein of the champagne white on Ravelry. If I can find the 207 somewhere I’ll be set to finish this one.

triple strand from single

A few years ago I posted this tip on how to increase a single strand into triple strand. I’ve used most of my worsted stash so I want to start in on the DK and sport so I was thinking I’d like to double strand it and then remembered this video tip by Briana K. I’ve used it in the past but it’s been a while and I’d forgotten the details. It’s quite simple to do so I thought I’d share it again.

Another great tip by Michael Sellick of the Crochet Crowd is how to eliminate the hole when you join a round. If I don’t use a tip often I forget exactly how it’s done so I’m sharing it again.

There’s a new TV show out called Elsbeth. In the first episode she wears a granny square scarf that I’ve been eyeing. It looks like she makes it double wide, two grannies side by side, and long enough to wrap around her throat and fall in front so that’s a lot of grannies.

The colors I see are light blue, dark pink, light pink, gold, purple and off white border with a join as you go used to assemble. Of course, you can’t see all the squares to determine how they are placed. On the part showing it looks like the same colors are used on two squares and those are alternated in the join. You can just barely see the side by side.

So is this scarf worth a crochet? I think it is but I don’t know when I’ll get around to it. 🙂

Are you going to make the Elsbeth scarf? I don’t know how long the show will be on as it’s new. It depends on if people take a shine to it. It’s sort of like Columbo where you know who did it and the fun is how she figures our how to prove it. At least that is the first episode I watched.

Size: 5 1/2″ x 50″

The colors in this yarn are so beautiful. I really like it. I don’t often work with a K hook. When you look at this yarn you wouldn’t think it needed that large a hook but the yarn expands. To get a nice drape, you need the larger hook. I haven’t washed this scarf but I expect the stitches will be closer together after a washing.

Uptown Spirit Stripes

Yarn: Universal Uptown Worsted Spirit Stripes in color Fight Song
Hook: H/5.0 Tulip
Size: 4″ x 49″
Foundation chain: 16, 90 rows

I call this light worsted. It took more rows to get to a good size. That said, the yarn had a nice feel to it. I’ve used it before to make a small afghan for my grandson who likes the color orange.

Yarn: black with silver sparkly strand. I don’t know the name of it. update: It looks like it is either Red Heart or I Love This Yarn metallic

I usually stay away from black but I’m determined to use my stash and this was one of the last few in the worsted bin. I had absolutely no trouble working with it, to my surprise. If I figure out what yarn it is, I’ll come back and edit. 🙂
